In recent years, the ingestion of plastics by sea creatures has become increasingly common, and ever more dire. In late February, a dead sperm whale was found on the coast of southern Spain with some 64 pounds of plastic debris accumulated in its stomach and intestines.
This is a grim reminder that our reckless consumption and disposal of plastics not only harms us and our natural environment, but other living creatures as well.
