In light of coronavirus…

Hydrodore is necessary now, more than ever. A National Sanitation Foundation study found that public hydration stations are significantly dirtier than bathrooms, with 2.7 million bacterial cells found per square inch of a water fountain, including E. coli, legionella, and coliform. Because coronavirus is mainly spread person-to-person through respiratory droplets, it is best to stay away from an object that comes in such close proximity to other people’s mouths and noses. Angela Rasmussen, a virologist with the Center for Infection and Immunity at Columbia University also warns against using drinking fountains during the coronavirus pandemic for this very reason.

Hydrodore completely eliminates the necessity of water fountains and hydration stations because of the frequency and quantity that water jugs are delivered to each customer. Furthermore, because of Vanderbilt’s FutureVU sustainability initiative that eliminated single-use plastic water and soda bottles on campus in 2019, plastic water bottles are not an accessible option for students, making Hydrodore the most available, sanitary, and sustainable choice on campus.
